Orgosolo is a town located in the heart of Barbagia di Ollollai, famous for the richness of its ancient traditions, for the character and pride of its inhabitants and for the priceless natural and landscape heritage of the area.
Starting from Orosei aboard the Land Rover, in about an hour we reach the center of Orgosolo, perched on the mountain at about 600 meters above sea level.
In the past Orgosolo became sadly famous because of the bandit phenomenon, today Orgosolo is known for the warmth and the hospitable character of its inhabitants.
The history of the town is reported in the Murales, the murals that attract thousands of visitors each year depicting the history and political struggles of
Orgosolo, of Sardinia and now all over the world.
After visiting the historic center and the characteristic Murales, with the Land Rover we head towards the Supramonte di Orgosolo. We will visit the “Pratobello” plateau where it
is not uncommon to observe domestic animals that live in the wild, we will cross the “Montes” forest where we will visit the imposing limestone heel of Monte S. Giovanni at 1300
meters above sea level, a splendid natural terrace on everything the Supramonte and the Gennargentu mountain range.
Once back down from Monte S. Giovanni, with the Land Rover we enter the wild area of Supramonte passing through the valley of "Badde S'Ospile", we enter a forest of
secular holm oaks up to an ancient sheepfold in that area for about 200 years called "Su Pinnettu" in Sardinian language.
These structures, widespread in all the mountains of central-eastern Sardinia, are the testimony of a past time, when the shepherds still did the transhumance and that recall the shape of the ancient nuragic huts.
Some shepherds still use these sheepfolds, and in one of these under the crowns of centuries-old holm oaks, we will be able to consume the typical lunch.
Lunch includes : cold cuts, cheeses, boiled sheep meat and roast suckling pig, "Carasau" bread, Cannonau wine and digestives such as myrtle liqueur and "Filu 'e Ferru ",
Sardinian brandy.
All dishes are prepared directly by the pastor and his family.
This tour therefore allows you to immerse yourself in the agro-pastoral tradition and in the uses and customs of a typical Barbagia town, all included in an area of high
environmental value.
